Still a great chipset for being 8 years old

The Exynos 7420 inside of my Galaxy S6 edge+ still holding well basic tasks, and some games with medium graphics such as Call of Duty, the Exynos 7420 isn't a flagship processor anymore but still way better than those new low-end chipsets, example Galaxy A03/A03s processor that have bad Mediatek chipsets or the Qualcomm 400 series chipsets, the Exynos 7420 still more powerful than those chipsets, the only downside is the efficiency of this processor, this processor is based on the 14 nanometer architecture process in his time was good, but now isn't good, apart from that the Exynos 7420 has aged very well, I can play PUBG at HDR/60fps with GFX tool, and can run asphalt 9, very satisfied with the performance of this chipset except with the efficiency for being 8 years old.

Pros

  • Much faster than newer low-end chipsets
  • Still has flagship features, supports 60fps video recording at FHD
  • Has better optimization than the newer low-end chipsets
  • The chipset has aged well fir its age
  • Still doing tasks very well.
  • Recommended only if you budget is low and you want the best performance for the best price, only is the low-end phones are affordable for you

Cons

  • The efficiency isn't the best due to its outdated fabrication and architecture process but was revolutionary in its time back in 2015
  • Isn't recommended except if your budget is low and you plan to get the best performance for a low price

I have a Samsung Note 5 and it comes with the Exynos 7420 processor. Even though the Samsung Note 5 is a five-year-old phone, I dare say it performs better than some of today's mid-range phones. In short, this processor is very good.

Pros

  • Performs well in games

Cons

  • Not the best battery optimization

General info

Supports 64-bit
Samsung Exynos 7420
Samsung Exynos 7870
A 32-bit operating system can only support up to 4GB of RAM. 64-bit allows more than 4GB, giving increased performance. It also allows you to run 64-bit apps.
Has integrated graphics
Samsung Exynos 7420
Samsung Exynos 7870
With integrated graphics you don’t need to buy a separate graphics card.
Small semiconductors provide better performance and reduced power consumption. Chipsets with a higher number of transistors, semiconductor components of electronic devices, offer more computational power. A small form factor allows more transistors to fit on a chip, therefore increasing its performance.
GPU clock speed

700 MHz

700 MHz

The clock speed of the graphics processing unit (GPU).
has 5G support
Samsung Exynos 7420
Samsung Exynos 7870
The fifth-generation wireless technology delivers higher speeds and lower latency than the previous, fourth-generation tech.
GPU turbo

Unknown. Help us by suggesting a value. (Samsung Exynos 7870)

When the GPU is running below its limitations, it can boost to a higher clock speed in order to give increased performance.
DirectX version

DirectX 11

DirectX 11

DirectX is used in video games, with newer versions supporting better graphics and features. The latest version is DirectX 12 Ultimate, which includes support for ray tracing, mesh shaders, and variable rate shading (VRS).
OpenGL ES is used for games on mobile devices such as smartphones. Newer versions support better graphics.
Some apps use OpenCL to apply the power of the graphics processing unit (GPU) for non-graphical computing. Newer versions introduce more functionality and better performance.

Performance

CPU speed

4 x 2.1 GHz & 4 x 1.5 GHz

8 x 1.6 GHz

The CPU speed indicates how many processing cycles per second can be executed by a CPU, considering all of its cores (processing units). It is calculated by adding the clock rates of each core or, in the case of multi-core processors employing different microarchitectures, of each group of cores.
CPU threads

8 threads

8 threads

More threads result in faster performance and better multitasking.
Uses big.LITTLE technology
Samsung Exynos 7420
Samsung Exynos 7870
Using big.LITTLE technology, a chip can switch between two sets of processor cores to maximize performance and battery life. For example, when playing a game the more powerful cores will be used to increase performance, whereas checking email will use the less powerful cores to maximize battery life.
Uses HMP
Samsung Exynos 7420
Samsung Exynos 7870
Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) is a more advanced version of big.LITTLE technology. In this setup, a processor can utilize all cores at the same time, or just a single core for low-intensity tasks. This can provide powerful performance or increased battery life respectively.
