Yerevan is small yet very densely populated (1 third of Armenia's population lives there) so it is naturally very crowded (forget trying to catch a bus during peak times unless you want to quite literally be crammed onto a packed bus rammed up against people). Pick pockets are rife, watch your belongings at all times (I have had something stolen from my bag, my friend had her purse stolen from her bag) although major crimes are fairly low, petty crimes are the main thing to watch out for. There is little to no nature in Yerevan compared to European countries, it can feel suffocating. Very dusty. People are not inclined to smile at strangers, they certainly don't greet strangers in the street (although when you get to know people, they can be friendly). In some places, you can be stared at if you are not Armenian, which can make it seem quite unpleasant. The air is polluted and dirty but it has a generally sunny climate, even in the winter months. When you get to know locals, and make friends, it is a more livable place. However, I missed the huge parks in Europe, there are not many nature or leisure options. If you like eating fast food and shopping, it is a great city.
