I recently purchased the Razer V3 Hypersense headset, hoping for better sound quality compared to my Steelseries Arctis 7. I had tested the Kraken 7.1 V2 at a gaming hub and thought Hypersense would be a great feature. However, after using it for a while, I'm having some concerns and I'm not sure if I should exchange or refund it.
Firstly, the haptic feedback of the Hypersense just doesn't feel good, as there is limited customization available. You can only tap the Hypersense button three times to change its intensity, which is disappointing.
One of the disappointments is that the headphones don't have effective noise cancellation, so I can still hear surrounding sounds while gaming, which affects my immersion. Additionally, I find the headphones to be too loud, and they tend to leak sound, which I didn't expect. UPDATE: Turns out these headphones are open back...
Another issue is that when I installed the headphones, Razer downloaded three playback devices, namely "Razer V3 Kraken Hypersense Headphones," "THX Spatial Audio," and "THX Spatial." The "THX Spatial" playback device seems to be useless, as only "THX Spatial Audio" and "Razer V3 Kraken Hypersense" work properly.
I also came across comments mentioning that the headset sounds muffled with the "THX Spatial Audio" playback device, forcing them to use the "Razer V3 Kraken Hypersense" device instead.
I'm also concerned about the fabric material used for the earcups and the durability of the cord. I'm not sure if they will hold up well in the long run, and I don't want to end up with a headset that doesn't last for more than a year
To add to my disappointment, I was initially misled by Razer's customer support when I asked if the headset included the THX Spatial Audio app, and they said "Yes." However, I later found out that the app needs to be purchased separately for $20, and it requires a key for installation, which was not provided with the headset. This has left me feeling scammed and uncertain about the app's quality and reviews.
I also came across comments from other users who experienced audio problems, with more than 70% of them reporting issues. It seems like Razer has not been responsive to these concerns, and some users have even reported metallic distorted sounds when switching haptic modes, which can only be resolved by restarting the headset.
