- Public transportation is cheap but virtually non-existent.
- Public transportation is crowded and has no fixed schedule. Buses come based on the whim of the driver, with very few available trips.
- There are very few railways. There's a tramway but it's of no use for transportation. IZBAN (rail network) is the biggest mess I've ever experienced in my life. There was a malfunction every month consistently for the past 3 years. Moreover, the IZBAN schedule is very sporadic.
- Traffic is a major issue. I've been in Istanbul but there's definitely a serious traffic problem here.
- There are plenty of universities but most are poor in terms of global standards.
- Security is a big issue, both because of aggressive stray dogs and because of certain neighborhood demographics. There are unfortunately many Gypsy districts, and there are quite a few districts known for being hazardous. You can't walk safely even in the richest districts.
- This city has the most squatter houses in Turkey.
- City planning is a disaster, and there might actually be no city plan at all.
- Many places don't even have sidewalks, and some crowded squares still have electric poles running through them. These poles can take up the little sidewalk space available.
- The city doesn't take care of its historical heritage. There are many ruined historical structures within the city. Besides that, there are new constructions built up against the walls of those that could be considered historical.
- It's rare to find roads and sidewalks that don't have holes or haven't been dug up.
- Air quality index is over 50, which means it ranges between average and poor.
Pros
Many opportunities
Historically beautiful
Public transportation is cheap
Cons
Plenty of opportunities but everything is of low-quality and cheap.
